Matthews Named 2014 Sheriff of the Year

Kershaw County sheriff Jim Matthews has been named the 2014 Sheriff of the Uear by the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association.  Matthews was nominated by Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott.  Lott saying that Matthews has restructured the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office to place more emphasis on improving response time and greater accessibility of deputies to the citizens of Kershaw County.  Matthews and the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office also  credited with increasing D.U.I. enforcement.  For the past three years the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office has been named the top agency for D.U.I. enforcement in South Carolina.  The award will be presented to Matthews in July durIng the annual conference of the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association.
