The two candidates for seat eight on the Kershaw County School Board each made their case Thursday night during a candidates forum presented by the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Don Copley, the incumbent and Dr. Charles King, former teacher, administrator and school board member in Kershaw County are the candidates for seat eight. Copley saying that he doesn’t feel the school district should have fiscal autonomy or the authority to raise taxes on its own. King said the school district needs to keep working at being accessible to the community. Copley said that he will keep working to ensure that school boards maintain local control of education while King said it is important that the school board works to have continued dialogue with the community.
