Kershaw County Council Passes Third Reading of Budget. Again.

Kershaw County Council Tuesday evening held third reading reconsideration of the County budget for the fiscal year that begins in July.  Councilman Jimmy Jones offered a number of amendments including a 2% pay raise for county employees,  $40,000 to the 5th circuit solicitor’s office, $50,000 to the public defenders office,  $40,000 to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office to hire an additional narcotics investigator and a $200,000 one time expenditure to assist in the construction of a new animal shelter.  The amendments passed on votes of 4-3.  The amended budget passed with a unanimous vote.  The additional expenditures will be funded out of the county reserve fund.  The county budget comes in at over $22.2 million.
