The jobless rate for Kershaw County went up for the month of May. May is the most recent month on record and figures from the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce show the May unemployment rate in Kershaw County at 4.6%. That compares to an April rate of 4.4% and means out of South Carolina’s 46 counties Kershaw County had the 38th highest out of work numbers. Statewide the jobless rate remained at 5.3%. The county with the highest jobless rate was Marion County with 9.6% and the county with the lowest out of work numbers was Lexington County with 4.2%. Kershaw County had the 38th highest jobless numbers out of the palmetto state’s 46 counties.
