Cassatt, SC and charged him with one of count burglary (3rd degree) after he reportedly broke into the Cassatt Country Store just before midnight on August 10, 2014.

On the morning of August 11, 2014 the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the Cassatt Country Store in Casssatt had been burglarized and a quantity of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco had been stolen.

Kershaw County deputies responded to the scene and began obtaining evidence. A surveillance video provided investigators with a clear picture of the suspect. The KCSO investigators were familiar with Richards who was already out on probation from a previous burglary. Richards voluntarily came to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office where he was interviewed and denied his involvement.

Investigators then went to Richards’ residence where he lived with his mother and brother. Richards’ mother was very cooperative and gave investigators consent to search the residence. Investigators discovered the stolen cigarettes and the clothing worn during the burglary. Upon this discovery, Richards admitted his involvement.

Richards was transported to the Kershaw County Detention Center where he remains pending a bond hearing. He was arrested by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office in 2013 and charged with burglary for which he is currently out on probation.
