On August 26, 2014 Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office narcotics investigators arrested Michael Brass (31) whose last known address is in Lugoff, Heath Sanders (30) whose last known address is in Columbia and Jessica Norris (29) from Elgin, SC after officers discovered a small meth lab they were operating in a room at the Economy Inn in Lugoff, SC.
Acting on an anonymous tip, KCSO narcotics investigators went to room 18 at the Economy Inn and spoke with the occupants; Brass, Sanders and Norris. During conversations with the occupants, deputies obtained consent to search the room. In the course of their search they discovered what is called a one pot meth lab as well as the ingredients used to manufacture methamphetamine. All three occupants were subsequently arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine.
Brass has previous arrests for narcotics, simple assault, criminal domestic violence, disorderly conduct, domestic assault and assault 3rd degree. Sanders has previous arrests for disorderly conduct, driving under suspension, DUI, strong armed robbery and carjacking. Norris has previous arrests for DUI, disorderly conduct, domestic violence, narcotics and she is currently on probation for narcotics violations from Lexington County.
All three suspects are currently being detained at the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
“This is the 8th meth lab seized in Kershaw County this year compared to 3 labs that were seized in 2013. Meth labs are inherently dangerous and are usually found in rural areas. Making meth in a motel room near occupants of other rooms is especially dangerous. We appreciate the tip that lead to this discovery,” said Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews.
