Beginning Digital Photography –(6 hours) Do you have access to a digital camera and a personal computer?  Bring your camera and learn some tricks with digital photography.  Instruction includes how to

select a camera, upload files, and print.

Learn Scanning Techniques- (3 hours)  Join this fun class and learn various scanning techniques.  Bring your questions concerning scanning procedures.

AutoCAD (Computer Aided Design) I & II- (20 hours) - Level I  is for beginners.  Basic fundamentals of AutoCAD with real-life examples will be covered.  The course will help students prepare for an advanced level.  Step-by-step exercises are included that utilize all the basics you need to start drawing in two dimensions.  Level II will allow students to experiment with different designs.  Students will work on a project of their choice.

Basic Welding I & II-  (30 hours) – This course is designed to provide entry-level skills necessary to enter the fields of general or construction welding.  Equipment used include both SMAW and GMAW.

Introduction to Custom Painting - (12 hours) - This fun class is designed for beginners who want to learn how to paint with House of Color custom paints, bowling ball, multi-tones, candies and airbrush.  Each student will learn the basic steps to painting a car or motorcycle, and they will complete 3 custom painted panels.  One of these will be airbrushed. All supplies are included in the tuition.  Students who have their own air brush will pay $150.

eBAY for Beginners-  (2 ½ hours)-  Learn how to buy and sell using eBay.

Basic Conversational Spanish  1 & 2 (20 hours) This class is designed to offer a beginning course for English-speaking students who want to learn basic conversation.  This course is for beginners who have little or no knowledge of the Spanish language.  Two groups will be formed, if necessary.

CNA( Certified Nursing Assistant Program) will be offered several times throughout the year.  Student applications are available in the Adult Education Office.   Assessment is required.  Call 425-8980 for more information.

 

Beginning Computers  (14 hours)-Did you get a computer for Christmas and you have no idea what to do with it?  This fun class is for students who barely know where the switch is. Students will learn basic information about the computer, Internet and email.  It is a great course for Seniors!  Instructor:  Wood   Prerequisite:  None    Tuesdays    12 Noon – 2:00 PM    January 23- March 6

Introduction to Personal Computers, Level 1 - (15 hours) – This class is designed for beginning computer users who already know how to use the mouse and keyboard.  Includes Windows XP, Internet, and Email.

 Introduction to Personal Computers, Level 2 - (15 hours) - This class is designed for people who want more in-depth instruction on using their computer.  Topics covered will be more in-depth Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and an introduction to Microsoft Office XP.

Keyboarding   (18 hours)  Students use computers to learn keyboarding and mouse skills.  Individuals work independently on skills, and schedules will vary to meet the needs of the student and the instructor.  Students who complete Level 1 are eligible to take computer courses and should be able to type between 15 – 20 w.p.m.       Instructors/Wood & Adult Staff   Initial meeting date:  Tuesday-  Jan.  23  at  12:30  p.m.

Internet & e-mail Fun  (5 hours)  Come a learn some strategies in using the Internet.  Learn quick ways to maneuver and get the information you want. This interactive class will address questions and concerns.

Basic Word XP - (17 1/2 hours) - This course is designed to teach Microsoft Word XP from the basics to more advanced use.  Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers Level I or equivalent expertise.

Microsoft Excel XP  - (17 1/2 hours) -This course is designed to teach Microsoft Excel XP from the basics to more advanced use. Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers Level I or equivalent expertise.

Basic Computer Repair- (17 ½ hours)-  Students will learn basic computer theory, assembly of a computer, installation of Windows and Office, plus upgrading and troubleshooting skills.

GED & Computer Classes at Blaney Elementary -  GED and computer classes will be held at Blaney Elementary in Lugoff starting February 13th at 5:30 PM, if there is enough interest.  A minimum of 8 students is required for each class.  Call the Adult Education Office (425-8980) to leave your name and telephone number, if interested. Registration/Fees & Assessment will be taken care of the first night of class.

 

GED Classes at Blaney-  Tues./Thurs.   Instructor/Porter  5:30 - 7:30 PM   Feb. 13- Mar.29    Cost: $ 70.00 (Fee includes GED book & calculator) *The GED Exam is given each month in Columbia.  An application must be sent in to the GED Testing Office.  See the instructor for details.

Parenting Classes-  Parenting classes will be scheduled during the winter session.  These fun classes will address some of the major issues facing parents.  If you are interested, please call Connie Sheorn or Linda Robinson at The Parent Center (424-2842) for starting dates and more specific information.

 

English as a Second Language Classes-  Thursdays at ATEC- Registration/Assessment Jan. 11th from 6-8 p.m.  Classes begin Thursday, January 18th, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.  Additional class offerings will be available at registration on January 11th.  Call 425-8980 for more information.

  Registration for the winter session is January 8-11 from 8:30 A.M. – 7:00 P.M.  Students will begin classes January 16, 2007.   Students must take the TABE assessment before beginning classes.  Call 425-8980 for informationAssessment is January 10th at 9 a.m. or 5:00 p.m.  There is a $10 assessment/registration fee. * Please arrive 10 min. early.

*GED/High School Diploma Graduation will be held in May

 

High School Diploma students must meet with their certified instructor to finalize a schedule.  (See the class schedule below).  An Official transcript is required before a student may register for classes. 

Cost : $80.00 per unit course- $45 for ½ credit courses.  All high school diploma students must meet with the guidance counselor before paying fees.   Check with the Adult Education office for the guidance  schedule.  Students who have an I.E.P. must be scheduled for an I.E.P. meeting before they may attend classes.  Students need to let the Adult Education office/testing instructor know that they have an IEP or a 504 Plan.  Call the Adult Education Office for more information.  (425-8980)

*Students must attend class with their certified instructor, and they must choose an additional day to meet.  Students must attend 60 hours for a full unit course and 30 hours for a ½ unit course.  High School diploma students must:  (1)  successfully complete their course outline,  (2) attend class the required hours, and (3) be approved by the instructor.                                                                      

 

                                                                                                                                                        

 

I.E.P. Students-  Students 21 years old and younger with an I.E.P. must call the Special Service Office to schedule an I.E.P. meeting.  The Adult Education Office must be included in the meeting.  Students may not enroll in Adult Education prior to the I.E.P. meeting.  Students need to let the Adult Education staff know that they have an I.E.P.

 

Assessment Dates

 

Entrance Test Dates for 2007-  All adult education students must take the TABE Test in order to register for a class.  There is a $10.00 testing and registration fee for the TABE Test.  The Practice GED will be given monthly.  Students in the GED Program may take the test for free.  The fee is $25.00 for  students who do not attend classes.   All test dates are on Wednesday.  Students may test at 9:00 a.m. or 5:00 p.m.; however, students must take the Practice GED at 9:00 a.m. since the Practice Test takes approximately 5 hours.   The dates marked with an asterisk are the dates that the Practice GED is given.  The test dates are as follows:

Mature Evening Pre-GED & GED Preparation (Skills Lab) classes meet on  Mon./ Tues./Thurs. from 6:00 -8:00 PM.  The Skills Lab offers the mature adult the opportunity to refresh skills and study for the GED in a separate setting that accommodates the mature adult learner.  All students must complete the Entrance Test before attending class.   (See schedule above).  All Students may attend the WorkKeys/Wednesday Lab from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.  * Must be 21 years old or older to attend the M/W/TH classes.       Session 3-   (Jan. 16 – Mar. 8)   and   Session 4 -     (Mar. 12 – May 10)

Tuition: $30.00/ each session       GED Book : $20.00     GED Calculator: $10.00

 

Adult Morning Pre-GED and GED Preparation classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 AM-12:00.   Students who have been expelled may not attend the morning class.  GED students 19 years of age and older may attend the morning session.  All students must complete the Entrance Test before attending class. Session 3- (Jan. 16 – Mar. 8) and Session 4- (Mar. 12 – May 10)  

Tuition: $30.00 per session     GED Book:  $20.00     GED Calculator: $10.00

 

Young Adult Academic Classes- (Designed for students who are 17-20 years of age)

Classes meet Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons from 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM and on Wednesday from  4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.  *  Please take note of session beginning and ending dates.  (See schedule above for High School Diploma students).

 

 GED Students who are 17 or 18 years of age must complete an application form and attend a 3 day orientation. Total cost is $30.00 per session for tuition / $10.00  for the GED calculator.  Students should  purchase the complete GED book for study at home. ($ 20.00).

 

Evening Adult Basic Education Reading/Math Review classes are designed for students who need to review before beginning Pre-GED/GED classes.  Basic reading and basic math skills will be reviewed.  Students will be placed in this class based on TABE scores.

Monday Evening Review Class- Open Entry-  (6:00 – 8:00 PM)  This class is set up for students who are waiting for the next GED/Pre-GED session to begin.  Students will work on basic skills and teacher-directed activities.  Students must take the TABE Assessment, get transcripts sent to adult education, register for the class, and should purchase the GED book and calculator.  Class begins February 5th

Cost of Review Class:  $15.00 for 5 weeks

 

Blaney GED Preparation -Tuesday/Thursday- February 13, 2007 – March 29, 2007  5:30 – 7:30 PM.   A minimum of 8 students required.  Registration, fees, and assessment will be completed on February 13, 2007.  If interested, please attend Tuesday, February 13th at 5:30 PM.

Cost: $70.00.  Cost includes book and calculator.   Registration forms and fees will be collected the first night of class.

 

GED ON-LINE – Would you like to study for your GED, but are unable to attend classes?  Does your job keep you from being able to attend classes?  Are you unable to leave your home due to illness or responsibilities?  Do you have a computer with Internet capability?  If so, the Adult Education Program is offering an on-line class for mature adults who want to earn their GED, but who are not able to attend classes.  Entrance in the program is based on need and assessment information.  The program is for students who are mature and academically close to being ready to take the actual GED.  Students must have a computer with Internet capability.  The process:  (1) take the TABE Assessment to determine eligibility,

(See testing dates), (2) attend the On-Line Orientation, (3) pay fees and follow On-Line guidelines outlined in the orientation.  Tuition:  $70.00 (includes on-line book and 7 months of on-line study).

 

HSAP Schedule  

HSAP Exams are scheduled the week of April 23rd – 26th.  Check with instructor for specific days and testing times. Students must attend 12 +hours in each area in order to take HSAP exams.   

Classes begin the week of  February 12, 2007.  Classes run Feb. 12- Apr.19

Students are required to have an official transcript that includes Exit Exam/HSAP scores sent to the Adult Education Office.  Each Exit Exam student must schedule an appointment in February to review transcripts with Mr. Horton.  Call the Adult Education Office to set up an appointment.
